LCol Bent's Cathedral granite carving

Carving from marble of Rheims Cathedral

A soldier of the 15th Battalion carved this piece of marble in the trenches near Rheims and presented it to LCol C E Bent, CMG DSO, the Commanding Officer of the 15th Bn. The stone came from the Rheims Cathedral, France. In addition to 48th Highlanders symbols, including the buckle badge, many of the symbols carved relate to the Masonic Lodge of which LCol Bent was a devoted member. The marble is 8 1/2″ high x 2″ width at top and 3 1/2′ wide at the lower bulge.
