Canadians in Italy
While artillery blasted away at German positions in the foreground of this picture. Maybe Spinette, or Torella north of Campobasso, Italy. [P1447] After the 1st Cdn Division had taken the town of Campobasso on 13 October 1943, they had intended to use Campobasso as a rest area preparing for the next advance. However, the German artillery located near Torella was in range and continued shelling Campobasso. Tiring of the shelling the 48th Highlanders and the 1st Brigade were sent on the 26th to drive the Germans out of Torella and out of range.
