The postcard photo was taken by H.E. Poole, 91 Queen St. West, Toronto. On the rear of the card, written in pencil is the signature “Pte Calvin Hughes” and “To Mrs. M. Hughes, 43 Ellerbeck. Photo taken in late 1915 or early 1916. Once in England Hughes was transferred to the 4th Battalion and suffered a gunshot wound in the thigh during the “Last 100 Days” of the war.
