48th Highlanders of Canada

Inside

The Reserve Force

The job of the Reserve Force is to give as many civilians as possible part time training in Army methods so that, if necessary, an army can be raised quickly with a minimum of additional training.

The period of enlistment is three years. Members are required to turn out for training once each week and every available facility is placed at the disposal of the Reserve Force for summer training in modern Army camps.

Members receive the same basic pay as the Active Force while on duty.

On joining the Reserve Force a man is equipped with a complete uniform which will remain in his possession during his service. There is ample equipment, weapons and vehicles to train on the same basis as any unit in the Active Force.

In addition a first-rate club life is provided for members. You will meet and get to know the many fine fellows who, like yourself, realize the importance of the job they are doing.

48th Highlanders of Canada

Faith and Pride! These were the sustaining powers of that small but gallant band of men who formed the 48th Highlanders of Canada in the Reign of Queen Victoria. The Regiment came into being on the 16th day of October, 1891. Since that date it has been represented in three wars, winning twenty-one Battle Honours in World War 1.

In World War 11, as in World War 1, this Regiment was in the First Canadian Contingent to proceed overseas.

The Pipe Band of the 48th Highlanders of Canada is the largest in the British Empire, and the finest military band in Canada.

The swing of the kilt and the skirl of the pipes still hold the thrill for young Canadians that they have in years gone by.

Are you between the ages of 17 and 25?

Are you physically fit?

If you can answer YES to both of these questions, you are eligible to make application for enlistment in the 48th Highlanders of Canada.
