Program for the Opening of the Memorial Hall on King Street

Dedication and Opening of the Memorial Hall on King Street – 1975 Oct 19

– Program

48th Highlanders Association Dedication and Opening Memorial Hall at 284 King Street East, Toronto Sunday October 19, 1975

The original Memorial Hall  located at 519 Church Street was purchased and opened on 26 May 1946 , from funds raised by the Old Comrades and friends of the Regiment. In 1975, after 27 years of occupancy by the 48th Highlanders Association members, the Memorial Hall was condemned as structurally unsound by the City of Toronto. The Regiment sold the building and moved to 284 King Street, opposite the Toronto Sun newspaper offices. The Opening Ceremony on October 19, 1975 unveiled a plaque commemorating the opening and those who had served and those who had made the ultimate sacrifice.

Ironically, the building on Jarvis Street, condemned by the City, remains standing and occupied to this day.
