Memorial Service

Funeral or, in-house Memorial Service will be observed by the Drill Team members when under Command.

DRESS – Glengarry, Blazer, Poppy, Gray Slacks or Dress as ordered by the Drill Commander.

BEARERS – Bearers will remove head dress only when bearing the casket.

GUARD of HONOUR – Guard will be formed outside the Church or Chapel, prior to the casket being carried from either place. The Command “Salute” will be given by the Guard Commander. The Salute will be held until the casket is completely in the hearse, then the Command “Down” will be given.

RIFLES – If Colours are present, which they should be at a Club Memorial Service, two escorts with rifles should march on under command, halt, advance, present arms, rest on your arms, reverse arms and remain in this position until the Minister has completed the service. The Colour Party will then present arms, shoulder arms and march off.

ARRIVAL AT THE CEMETARY – Drill Team Members will be formed up in single file and marched to the grave site forming a “U” shape and turned inwards, allowing the Family and Friends to gather in front.

COMPLETION OF SERVICE – The file will be led off by the right hand member, and in succession will place a Poppy on the casket, take a pace to the rear, Salute, turn left and march off to a forming up area where the unit will be dismissed by the Drill Commander.
