General Hamilton was the first Honourary Colonel of the 48th Highlanders, serving from 1911 – 1947 and had commanded the Gordon Highlanders with whom the 48th Highlanders had the first formal officially sanctioned Alliance in May 1904 between a regiment in the British Empire with a UK regiment.   Canadian Military HQ photo.
