Soldier with bare-legs at an observation post looking with binoculars. P0378 Highland regiments, including the 15th Battalion, 48th Highlanders, were entitled to wear their kilt in the trenches and in combat if they chose. Trousers and shorts were issued shortly after the beginning of the war but many 48th Highlanders continued to wear the kilt.
