1045433 Private Gordon Dooley Blue was 20 year old bank clerk from Springfield, Illinois when he attested into the 241st Battalion (Scottish Borders) in Windsor Ontario in October 1916. Due to its proximity to the US border, the 241st Battalion had a large number of Americans serving it and it was one of the battalions that sent reinforcement drafts to the 15th Battalion. Private Blue came to the 15th as reinforcement following the battle of Hill 70 in August 1917 and was posted to No. 3 Company. He was with the battalion at Passchendaele in November and was attached to the 1st Entrenching Battalion.
On April 22, 1918, while attached to the 1st Canadian Assistant Provost Marshall as a sentry, his dugout was hit by a 8” artillery shell and he was buried for three hours. When his body was recovered, it was found that he had died of a fractured skull. Private Blue is buried in Roclincourt Military Cemetery.
