Piper GORDON, Arthur John

Arthur was born on September, 9th, 1899 at Stonehaven, Kincardineshire, Scotland, and at some time later immigrated to Canada.

He had previous service with the Gordon Highlanders and enlisted on September 23rd, 1914 with the Canadian Army Service Corp (CASC) Divisional Train at Valcartier. At signing, he was 25 years old, with a height of 5 feet 5.5 inches. He is described having a dark complexion, grey eyes, and dark hair.

Arthur sailed with No 2 Coy, Divisional Train aboard either SS Alunia, Virginian or Montreal from Quebec City to Plymouth on November 3rd, 1914 and posted to West Down North Camp, Salisbury Plain.

The Divisional Train proceeded from Avonmouth aboard SS City of Benares to St Nazaire, France on February 9th, 1915. Later that year in November, he was posted to the 15th Battalion and assigned to the pipe band.

Arthur served with distinction and returned to England with the battalion. Sailing from Le Havre to Portland aboard the SS Lorina and by train to Bramshott on arrival on March 3rd, 1919.

The 15th Battalion returned to Canada aboard SS Baltic from Liverpool to Halifax. On May 14th, 1919, Arthur was demobilized at Toronto.

Arthur left Canada on February 27tth, 1920, arriving at Liverpool from St John, NB aboard SS Metagama. His last known address was listed as c/o Hawthorne Bank, Airdrie, Scotland.
