Maj Wilfred Mavor, MC

Wilfred Mavor’s Military Cross citation is quite something. “This officer was most plucky at the Second battle of Ypres, and although badly gassed, left hospital and rejoined his regiment within three days. He showed great gallantry in leading his platoon during the attack May 20th at Festubert, when he was seriously wounded.”
Mavor was wounded as many as 6 times during the war by some accounts and was also recommended for a DSO. Mavor’s batman was wounded as many times as he was.
