At about midnight on on the night of 8th-9th May 1917, the enemy was shelling the Front Line Trench (Nova Scotia Trench just SW Acheville) very heavily and Lieut Webber was wounded in the arm and shoulder by pieces of a shell.  As he was making his way down the trench to have his wounds dressed, he came upon two members of his platoon whom a shell had buried.  He at once commenced digging them out.  That portion of the trench was being severely shelled and he himself was suffering intensely from his wounds, but he did not cease his efforts until the men were recovered.

This officer has always shown great coolness under shell fire and his determination and steadiness on this occasion is certainly worthy of recognition.
