Commanding Officer 48th Highlanders of Canada  2015 – 2018

LCol Harry Pedwell was born in St. Catharines, Ontario. The son of a prominent local lawyer, he grew up in a rural area just outside of the city and developed an early appreciation for outdoor activities, military history and politics. Lieutenant-Colonel Pedwell started uniformed life at the age of 13 as an army cadet. He joined the Canadian Armed forces in 1989 and was commissioned as an infantry officer in the Essex and Kent Scottish Regiment in Windsor Ontario in 1990. Upon completion of his university studies, Lieutenant-Colonel Pedwell moved back to St. Catharines and transferred to the Lincoln and Welland Regiment. In 1996 he moved to Toronto to pursue his civilian career and transferred to the 48th Highlanders of Canada.

LCol Pedwell has served in virtually all regimental command and support roles including Recruiting Officer, Infantry Platoon Commander, Reconnaissance Platoon Commander, Infantry Company Commander, Administration Company Commander, Operations Officer, Deputy Commanding Officer and Commanding Officer. He has served extensively throughout Canada and abroad and is a graduate of both the Canadian Land Force Command and Staff College in Kingston and the Canadian Forces College in Toronto.

In his civilian life, LCol Pedwell works for Scotiabank and has extensive experience in Securities Trading, Risk Management and Corporate Security. He is a graduate of the University of Windsor and the University of Toronto where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and a Certificate in Financial Analysis and Investment Management respectively. He is also active in several community organizations and served on the Board of Directors of Eden Food for Change, a food bank serving the Western Mississauga area.

In his spare time Lieutenant-Colonel Pedwell enjoys hiking, camping, fishing, reading and travelling with his family. He and his wife Sadie reside in Mississauga, Ontario, with their two children Emma and James.
