Captain George C. Hendrie

George C. Hendrie as a Lieutenant was one of 16 48th Highlanders awarded the Coronation Medal in 1937. He was promoted to Captain on 10 April 1939 and joined the 2nd Battalion, 48th Highlanders in September 1939 when war was declared, one of 52 Officers to do so.

Two other members of the Hendrie family served with the 48th Highlanders – LCol William Hendrie, VD who had been a founding member of the regiment in 1891 and commanded the regiment 1911 – 1913, and LCol William B. Hendrie who went overseas in 1939 with the 1st Battalion and commanded from 10 January 1942 to March 1943.
