Pte Cameron was killed on 22 July 1943 by German medium artillery as the battalion advanced on the road from Assoro, Sicily, spaced at 5 yard intervals, to a form up point 1 1/2 miles short of the Adrano crossroads. 2 Highlanders were killed and four wounded in the barrage.
