Chieveley June 26th, 1902

To Whom it May concern,

Having heard it reported that the Troops on board “S.S. Manhattan” under command of Major W.H. Merritt, had nicknamed that officer. I wish to state that the only officer given a nickname, was Lieut. Rodden, Asst. Quartermaster, the nickname used was “The Mad Mullack”. I do not think it could have escaped my notice had Major Merritt been nicknamed, or spoken of disrespectively.
