Envelope of Pte. Mary Ruby Revere’s Military Medals and Documents

A yellow manila paper envelope containing various documents from during time of military service in a leather bound cover noted as MILITIA BOOK M.1 and titled as CANADIAN ARMY – SOLDIER’S SERVICE AND PAY BOOK, and two medals, each in their own small white cardboard box, all belonging to Pte. Mary Ruby Revere. The two medals are as follows: one Canadian Volunteer Service Medal (CVSM) with one Overseas Service Bar and clasp, one War Medal 1939-1945. The medals (removed, mounted separately under new accession number 2023805905 to Case 46) are in a smaller brown paper envelope from the WAR SERVICE RECORDS (AWARDS) in the Dept. Veteran Affairs located in Ottawa. Some of the documents are: two telegraph letters from family, a National Registration Certificate, a will, a Soldier’s Service Book, and a Soldier’s Pay Book. Pte. Mary Ruby Revere served during WWII from 1944 to 1946 as a volunteer in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps (CWAC), enlisting at the #103 Depot Coy. CWAC in Kingston Ontario on February 12 1944, and was a switchboard operator group “C” and “B” from April 13, 1944 to March 3, 1945, and a clerk group “C” as a storewoman from March 5, 1945 to June 9, 1945, and served for a period overseas in Great Britain until June 16, 1946, and was discharged on July 31, 1946.

The envelope with Pte Mary Revere’s medals and documents was included as part of the donation of artifacts of Pte. Harold C. McKay, and included with the artifacts was a letter by a relative to Pte. Harold that mentioned a ‘Mary’, but did not detail their relationship.
