Memorial Communion Table - front

Communion Table in St Andrew’s Church donated by Sergeants

In the centre of the chancel is the Memorial Communion Table dedicated on Remembrance Day, Sunday 11 November 1934 by The Rev. Stuart C. Parker, D.D., Minister of St. Andrew’s and Chaplain of the Regiment.  The table, a gift of the sergeants in memory of their comrades who fell in the First World War, stands as a memorial to those of both world wars and has been used since its dedication at every celebration of the Sacrament of Holy Communion. The table, wrought in oak, was designed by Dr. John A. Pearson, a member of the church, and architect of the present Parliament Buildings and the Peace Tower in Ottawa. Pearson was made an Honourary Sergeant in recognition of his contribution of design and supervision of construction of the Communion Table.  In abutments under glass tops at each end is the Book of Remembrance, upon which the names and ranks of the dead of both world wars, 1,818 soldiers, are inscribed in elegant block script on 25 parchment pages. One page is turned each year in the Regiment’s Remembrance Day ceremony.
