Although called a Casualty Book, this book lists in order, alphabetically, soldiers who enlisted in the 48th Highlanders from 1892 to 1950s and when they were discharged. The book is indexed alphabetically by the last name of the recruits to the regiment. The sheets of paper have the following categories for each soldier: the service number of the soldier; company to which they were assigned; age; date of enrollment; previous record; discharge date, and remarks (i.e. information on their death or notable commendation). All entries are in ink.
The original Casualty book was falling in disrepair so the sergeants of the regiment paid for the book to be rebound and restored in 1957.
