Stored together in a shadow box are six different 48th Highlanders cap badges with different designs and colours, though all have on the front a falcon head and the words: “DILEAS GU BRATH 48 HIGHLANDERS”, one of the badges is on a square patch of Davidson tartan, with two identity discs on short chains to be worn as wrist bracelets. The silver colour identity disc has stamped on the front, from top to bottom: “MATHEWS. H.O P 27430 C.E.F 15.CAN.BTN.”, and the back has stamped: “MATHEW”. The brown rust colour identity disc has stamped on the front, from top to bottom: “27984 SERG.GEO.H. CRESSWELL 15THBATT 48TH HIGHLANDERS CANADIANS”.
The cap badges from top to bottom and left to right are:
- Bronze colour WW1 buckle style with addition at bottom with the word “CANADA”
- Gold colour WW2 or post-WW2 diamonds style
- Silver colour post-WW2 diamonds style
- Yellowish-brown colour WW1 buckle style
- Silver colour WW2 buckle style
- Yellowish-brown colour late 20th century diamonds style, on a square patch of red cloth and square tartan underneath
Note: On CSM Harvey Orlando Matthews’ Record of Service card, his name is spelled with two ” T “s, and his religion is written down as Methodist, not Presbyterian as it appears on this service disc.
