48th Highlanders Divine Service at Long Branch Camp.

Shortly after, on 29 August, the battalion, 970 strong, departed from Don Station to Valcartier, Quebec where they would become the 15th Battalion (48th Highlanders) and part of the first wave of a new Canadian Army. They arrived free of expense and fully equipped except for rifles, knapsacks and bayonets. The Regiment, as a gift to their country, had paid for their uniforms and accoutrements at the cost of $25000.
