A member of the 1st Bn, 48th Highlanders, bidding his baby goodbye with his spouse watching as they prepared to leave the Horse Palace on 1 Dec 16, 1939. The battalion trained during Sept to December with the Horse Palace on the Canadian National Exhibition as their barracks, then departed by CN train on 17 December 1939 for Halifax to embark as part of the 1st Canadian Division in convoy for England.
