The men arrived in Valcartier Camp, Quebec City by train in the rain on September 26, 1914, and boarded their transport ship, the SS Megantic. The ship then waited in the St. Lawrence River for several days while the rest of the massive convoy of 32 transports and seven Royal Navy escorts assembled. The convoy left for England on October 3, 1914, arriving in Plymouth on October 14, 1914 as part of the first Canadian troop contingent of the First World War.
