WO2 Walker, Bruce B, CD

B73555 Bruce Bertram Walker was an original “39er” with the 1st Bn 48th Highlanders and served until the end of the war.  He rejoined the Canadian Army Special Force for Korea and served as an Artilleryman, retiring as a WO2.

Obituary

WALKER, Bruce B. CD WO2 (Ret) Died at Montfort Hospital, Ottawa, Ontario, on January 4, 2011. Born in Toronto ON, on the 18th July 1921. Left to cherish his memories are his daughter Betty Ann (Birnie) of Kirby-in-Furness, England, son Eric of Dortmund Germany, granddaughter Pat (Cameron) of Petawawa, grandson Richard Rutledge of England, great-grandchildren Terrilyn and Christopher of Petawawa and many good military friends. He was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth in 1996, who he married on the 7th of March 1942. Bruce attended Wilkinson Public School and Riverdale Collegiate in Toronto. On the 25th of November 1939 he enlisted in the 48th Highlanders and proceeded oversees on 17th December, 1939. Spent 3 1/2 years in England taking part in the “Dover Dash” in May 1940 and a trip to France in June 1940. He landed in Sicily on “D” day 10th of July 1943 with D company. Later transferred to the Anti-Tank platoon, served with them until he was reunited with wife Betty and daughter Betty-Ann in Canada 3 days before VE Day. Was released from the forces on the 18th of May 1945. Bruce re-enlisted in 1950. Served in Korea in 1953. Did three tours in Germany with the RCA and RCHA. He retired for the second time from the forces on the 15th January, 1972. He was a member of the 48th Highlanders Old Comrades Assoc. and the RCL Br. 632 Orleans.
