192335 Pte Simpson, Henry Wright enlisted with the 92nd Battalion, 48th Highlanders in Toronto on 13 August 1915. He gave his date of birth as 27 August 1890. He stated he had served 3 years with the 6th Bn Royal Highlanders in Scotland. With the 92nd Battalion he embarked from Halifax on 20 May 1916 on the SS Empress of Britain.
In England he was transferred to the 42nd Battalion and arrived at the battalion in the field in France on 28 August 1916. He was wounded on 9 October 1916, a gun shot wound to the leg and right foot. He was sent to hospital in Rouen and later transferred to hospital arriving 13 October in Folkstone, UK. The Canadian Army was at The Somme in September and some time into October. It is highly likely that he fought at The Somme.
Remaining in the UK he was made A/Cpl on 15 May 1917 and was subsequently transferred to the 20th Reserve Battalion then the 5th Reserve Battalion. He was given permission to marry on 28 April 1919. Pte Simpson was sent to Canada, embarking on 3 Sept 1919 and was discharged in Canada on 15 September with his home address as 98 Russett Avenue, Toronto. He was discharged as a member of the 92nd Battalion (48th Highlanders)
