Regimental Sergeant Major 48th Highlanders of Canada 1943-1948
Thomas Cotton joined the 48th Highlanders and was serving as a Sergeant in the Regiment in 1916 when he joined the 134th Battalion 48th Highlanders Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF). He later was transferred to the 4th Battalion CEF and served with them. until the end of the War. He was posted to UK for commissioning training and transferred to the Canadian Army Pay Corps in Oct- 1918 but remained an NCO and was employed in the Canadian camp at Whitley (Aldershot). S/Sgt Cotton returned to Canada in 1920 and returned to serve with the 48th Highlanders. During the Second World War he served with 2nd Battlalion, becoming RSM in 1943. In 1945 he assumed the appointment of Regimental Sergeant Major, 48th Highlanders of Canada and served until 1948. He died on 2-December-1049 and is buried in Toronto’s Prospect Cemetery.
