Pte WILLIAMSON, William Henry

799624 Pte Williamson, William Henry enlisted in Toronto on 24 January 1916 with the 134th Battalion (48th Highlanders) and was assigned to 4 Company . He gave his year of birth as 1898 to enlist as he was born in 1899, too young to enlist. He had prior service in the 109 Regiment, Canada (Militia) for 10 months. He sailed on the SS Scotian from Halifax on 8 August 1916 to England where he stayed with the 134th Battalion, training.

He transferred to the 15th Battalion, 48th Highlanders in France on 26 March 1918. Williamson was at the battles of Amiens and the Drocourt- Queant Line and was wounded shortly after on 10 September 1918, a gun shot wound to the left shoulder, flesh. He was sent to hospital on 12 September then hospital in England arriving 27 September. After hospital he was sent to Canada and was discharged in Toronto on 11 February 1919.

A photo of Pte Williamson in uniform with WWI ribbands and another photo of his glengarry with a lozenge badge, only issued at the start of WWII indicates that he reenlisted with the 2nd Bn in Toronto to assist with training and other regimental assignments.
