Sgt THOMAS, Tyrus

Thomas, Tyrus enlisted with the 48th Highlanders (militia) on 09 May 1932 and was assigned to D Company. He was discharge on 25 April 1938. He attested with the 1st Battalion, 48th Highlanders of Canada on 9 September 1939, service number B73010. With the 1st Battalion he travelled by CN train to Halifax and embarked on the Reina del Pacifico on 18 December, disembarking in the Clyde on 31 December 1939. He remained with the 1st Battalion in England and in 1942 he was made a platoon Sergeant in Support Company. He embarked with the battalion on 28 June 1943 from Gourock, Scotland on the troopship Derbyshire bound for the landing at Pachino, Sicily on 9 July 1943.

NOK: wife: 85 Cowan Avenue, Toronto.

Sgt Thomas was discharged in 1944, having faced combat in Sicily and Italy.
