Pte SCOLLARD, William

Private William Scollard was a 29 year old glass worker living in Montreal but originally from Trallee, County Kerry, Ireland with pre-war Militia service in the 85th Regiment when he attested into the 12th Battalion at Valcartier in September 1916.

He arrived at the 15th Battalion in May 1915 as a reinforcement following the battle of Festubert and was assigned to No. 3 Company. He served in all the 1915 trench tours – Givenchy in June, Ploegsteert and Hill 63 from July to August and the Messines Road from September to December. In January 1916 the battalion was in the front lines back on the Messines Road in trenches 138-142 when on January 27th, Private Scollard suffered GSWs to his abdomen, chest and arm. He died that same day at No. 2 Casualty Clearing Station and is buried at Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension.
