B72818 Gordon Frank Powell enlisted with the 1st Battalion, 48th Highlanders on 09 Sept 1939 and trained at the CNE grounds until mid-December. On 17 December, the battalion boarded a CN train in Toronto for Halifax where they boarded the Reina del Pacifico and sailed for the UK. They disembarked on 31 December 1939 and travelled by train the next day to Aldershot, Corunna Barracks. Powell became a Sergeant during the war (more research needed).
