Pte Faloon, Lloyd Burns – 1st Bn

B73487 Pte Faloon, Lloyd Burns joined the 48th Highlanders of Canada, 1st Battalion in September 1939. Following training, mostly at the Horse Palace in the CNE grounds in Toronto he, as part of the 1st Battalion, left by CN train from Toronto on 17 December 1939 for Halifax where they boarded the Reina del Pacifico as part of the convoy of the 1st Canadian Division. They spent Christmas at sea, disembarking in the Clyde at Gourock on 30 December then going by train to the Corunna Barracks at Aldershot arriving on New Year’s morning as part of 797 48th Highlanders.

(More research required) We know he was not on the ship that sailed in June 1943 to the landings at Pachino, Sicily on 10 July. So, whether he left the 48th in England or rejoined them in Italy will have to be resolved from his Service Records.
