Pte DAVIS, Harry

Private Harry Davis was an 18 year old printer from Guelph, Ontario when he attested into the 123rd Battalion at the Toronto Recruiting Depot in November 1915. He was transferred to the 134th Battalion and from there sent as a reinforcement to the 15th Battalion in November 1916 following the Somme campaign. Serving in No. 2 Company, he took part in the remaining 1916 trench tours at Carency in November and Berthonval in December. He was attach posted to the 3rd Canadian Trench Mortar Battery for the month of January 1917 returning to the battalion in February. On February 12th during the battalion’s first February trench tour at Calonne, Private Davis suffered severe shrapnel wounds to his back and legs and was evacuated to No. 6 Casualty Clearing Station where both legs were amputated. Private Davis died of his wounds the next day and was buried by the battalion Chaplin Major LW Moffit at Barlin Communal Cemetery Extension.
