Norman Nelvin Cubitt

PTE Cubitt, Norman Nelvin

Born 26 Sept 1918, in Newmarket, ON.

Attested in January 11, 1940 with the 48th Highlanders, but was with various others units as a Transport driver until May 11, 1943, when he went overseas and rejoined with the 48th Highlanders in Europe or North Africa.

Died on the first day of the advance through the Abruzzi Hills to the town of Volturara and then along the Catola River toward San Marco. Pte. Cubbitt was driving the R.A.P. jeep ambulance and it ran over a Teller mine, killing Cubbitt, two wounded Highlander it was carrying,  Chester Boughton and Bob Courriere,  and Dennis Quinn who died of wound the next day.

His brother, Pte Earl Richard Wilmot Cubitt, also served in the 48th Highlanders and was also killed in action in Italy, on December 17th, 1944.
