Pte Corbet GT

George Thomas Corbet was born in Guernsey.  Before 1914 he came from Kapuskasing, Ontario and joined the 48th Highlanders.  He served in the Military Band of the 48th Highlander of Canada under Captain John Slatter.  In 1916 he was mobilized with the 134th Battalion (48th Highlanders) for service with the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) overseas.  When he learned that the Band was to remain in England for ceremonial duties he sought a transfer to a unit that would let him serve at the Front he transferred to the Canadian Machine Gun Corps and at the Armistice was serving with the 1st Canadian Machine Gun Battalion in France. He is the grandfather of Honorary Colonel MD Scott, CM CD.
