Pte Carey, Dalton C, enlisted at No. 10 District Depot (Personnel Selection Board) and was given the service number H103132. Dileas, our regimental history, names him in the battle in the Liri Valley on 17 May 1944, during which 16 and 17 Platoons of Dog Company ranged far ahead and brilliantly captured the Forme d’Aquino from a vastly superior German force. “The action was such a complete success because the fighting spirit of the men rose to match the aggression of their leaders. Many brave men were in that fight: a reckless daring had infected both platoons and made them unstoppable. The steady bravery of Privates A. Bannister, Dalton Carey, J. Clark…was lauded.”
Pt 2 Orders attached to the War Diary of September 1945 show him embarking NWE on 4 September to the UK on 5 September 1945 as the 48th began their trip back to Canada. (More research required).
Family records state he had been a member of The Black Watch. the Royal Regiment of Canada.
