Pte Bunting, Thomas Arthur – 1st Bn

Thomas Bunting joined the 48th Highlanders (militia) on 9 May 1938. He was discharged on 4 September 1939 when he and a large majority of the battalion stepped forward on parade to enlist for overseas duty. The next day B73001 Bunting, Thomas Arthur enlisted with the 48th Highlanders in Toronto. Following training, much on the CNE grounds, with barracks in the Horse Palace, he, as part of the 1st Battalion, 48th Highlanders departed Toronto on 17 December 1939 by CN train for Halifax. They embarked on the Reina del Pacifico sailing on 18 December in the convoy of Canadian forces bound for England. They disembarked at Gourock in the Clyde on 30 December and were in Corunna Barracks in Aldershot on New Year’ Day.

In 1940 he transferred to the RCAMC (Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps).
