Private JAMIESON, WALTER

A12016 Pte Jamieson, Walter was killed in action on 16 December 1944 in the area between the Lamone River and the Senio River in northern Italy. Pte Jamieson enlisted 8 Dec 1941 and was assigned to the Perth Regiment for training, most of which was at Camp Ipperwash on Lake Huron. He was transferred to the Queen’s Own Rifles to go overseas, embarking on 10 April 1942 and disembarking in the UK on 19 April. In England he transferred to the 48th Highlanders on 7 May 1943 and remained in England when the 48th embarked for the landings at Pachino, Sicily, being placed on the 48th’s X-List as reinforcement for casualties. He joined the 48th 1st Battalion in Italy on 30 November 1944. He was reported missing in action on the night of 10/11 December during the assault crossing of the Lamone River. However, he returned to the unit the next day and resumed his position with his company. He was buried originally at the 48th Highlanders battlefield cemetery at the Lamone River, then moved to the Ravenna Cemetery.
