A108174 Pte Mink, Allan William enlisted at No 1 District Depot, London (Active Force MD1).
The War Diary’s Part II order of June 1944 shows him SOS to 1 General Hospital, on 23 May. The 1st Battalion had just left from the beachhead that they had created inside the Adolph Hitler Line defences at Pontecorvo at the head of the Liri Valley. The 48th had broken the Hitler Line, singlehandedly without support, on 21 May and expanded their penetration on 22 May to allow the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment and the Royal Canadian Regiment to complete the breaking of the Hitler Line. Our records do not show when Pte Mink came to the 1st Battalion but he was among the injured sent to hospital. On 16 July Pte Mink was struck off strength of the 48th Highlander’s X-3 List (Highlanders in hospital) and transferred to the X-9 List (personnel at Base Reinforcement Units, who are not available as reinforcements and whose dispositions is still to be decided). His family recall that he was transferred to the Medical corp.
(Service records required pre May and post July 1944 to complete Pte Mink’s service).
