Commanding Officer 48th Highlanders of Canada 1999 – 2002
Lieutenant-Colonel George D. Turner was raised in the Toronto area and graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1981 with a Bachelor of Mathematics degree. His introduction to the 48th Highlanders of Canada was through his father, Master Warrant Officer William B. Turner, CD.
In February 1982, Lieutenant-Colonel Turner was commissioned as a Second-Lieutenant in the 48th Highlanders
of Canada. He served in various capacities from Platoon Commander to Commanding Officer. His extra Regimental taskings included Course Commander for the last Reserve AVGP Infantry Driver’s course, DCO for 2 TLI during Exercised Trillium Pheonix in 1996 and as Battalion Commander for Exercise Steadfast Warrior in 2000.
During Lieutenant-Colonel Turner’s career with the 48th Highlanders he has had the opportunity to be on parade for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II twice, attended the 55th Anniversary celebrations of the liberation of the Netherlands in 2000, the 110th Anniversary of the Regiment Celebrations and commanded the Freedom of the City parade in May 2001.
Lieutenant-Colonel Turner is married to Joan, a Naval Reserve Lieutenant with HMCS York.They have four children,
Sam, Sara, Matthew and Joshua.
He is an avid golfer and in his civilian career, he is a Financial Analyst with OntarioPower Generation in Pickering

My father fought in the second war, while my grandfather fought in the fist and second wars.I also have a great uncle who fought in the first war
