Commanding Officer 48th Highlanders of Canada 1979 – 1982

Born in Toronto, Ontario, on May 1, 1943. LCol Temple started his military career at the age of 14 as a member of the Upper Canada College Cadet Corps. Two years later, when he transferred to Bishop Ridley College in St. Catharines, Ontario, he attained the rank of Cadet Major in the College’s Cadet Corps and was awarded the Master Cadet Certificate.

In November 1964, he joined the 48th Highlanders of Canada as a Provisional Second Lieutenant and received his Commission two years later, in September 1966. LCol Temple held most primary and secondary duties during his 18 years with the Regiment. On July 1, 1967, he was the Junior Ensign at the Trooping of The Colour during Canada’s Centennial Year. In 1973, he attended the CFLCSC, at Fort Frontenac, Kingston, where he qualified as a Reserve Staff Officer.

In 1974, Lieutenant Colonel Temple was posted to Central Militia Area Headquarters as a Staff Officer, (S02) Operations and Training for a year. When he returned to the Regiment in 1975, he assumed the duties of the training officer and was then appointed the Deputy Commanding Officer in May 1976.

LCol Temple was selected Honour Student on the Basic Parachutist Course in February 1976 and was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration in 1976 and the Jubilee Medal in 1978.

Married to Barbara Guy of Orillia, they live in Willowdale and have three children: Juliet, Lindsay and David Gordon.

For the past 15 years, Lieutenant Colonel Temple has been employed with Consumer’s Gas Company and presently is the Assistant to the Vice President, Public Affairs.

He has served as a long time member of the Board of Directors of Central Neighbourhood House. He has served on the Brigade Committee of the Ontario Council of St. John Ambulance and the Olympic Trust of Canada. He has been a member of the Badminton and Racquet Club and St. Lazarus of Jerusalem.
