William Charles Warren Darling joined the 48th Highlanders as a private on 31 March 1897. He was the first of four generations of the Darling family to wear the Davidson tartan.

Darling assumed command of the Home Battalion in December 1915, following Lieutenant Colonel Donald’s departure to raise the 134th Battalion (CEF). He continued on to command the 48th Highlanders of Canada from 1919 to 1923.

Brother of Captain Robert Clifford Darling (1887 -1915) and Helen Gwendolyn Darling Briscoe (1883-1951). Father of LCol Warren William Gibson Darling (1906 – 1979) and Evelyn Margaret Darling Davis (1905 -1988).

Died 30 Jul 1967 (aged 88)
