  • As Sgt becomes CSM No 2 Coy after Mt Sorrel
  • Awarded DCM as CSM Jan 1917
  • Promoted RSM at 22 years of age
  • Hospitalized with fever and CSM Matthews A/RSM until return
  • RSM until demobilization 1919
  • Becomes RSM 48th Highlanders 1927

This WO has distinguished himself in his Battalion, not only for his courageous conduct during all engagements the Battalion has been through, but for his high sense of duty and close application to his work. Under the most trying hardships he has proved efficient and resourceful, and can always be relied upon to carry on as a good soldier should.  He gets the best results out of his men on all occasions and is one of the mainstays of the organization of the Battalion.
