No record on our sailing lists (which are incomplete) but his service book indicates he landed in Sicily July 10, 1943 (possibly on the SS Derbyshire ) with the Canadian Army, 48th Highlanders

Service Book entry shows he was promoted to full Corporal (with pay) on April 21, 1944 and was wounded May 23 1944. (Service records and our museum records do not indicate nature of wounds).

March 11, 1945 sailed from Italy to France

Entitled to 3 medals 1) Canadian Volunteer Service, (2) Italy Star and (3) France Germany Star, and one wound stripe.

Sailed home November 30, 1945

Dileas notations:

  1. pg 534   at the Liri line on May 17 1944 during a night attack by the German 190th Panzer battalion on or near a bridge at the Forme d’Aquino.
  2. pg 579 wounded with 15 others advancing up the Liri Valley near Portecorvo where the 48th broke through the line. (May 23).
