Col Arthur William (Bill) Jensen was born and raised in Montreal where he attended high school at Lower Canada College. His earliest military experience was in the school’s cadet corps where he developed a passion for competitive rifle shooting. In 1961 he joined the Royal Montreal Regiment (RMR) as an infantry officer. In 1968 he was promoted Major.
In November 1969, Col Jensen’s employer the Bank of Montreal moved him to Winnipeg where he joined the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada as the Operations Officer. In 1970 he was asked to join the newly formed Prairie Militia Area Headquarters in the Operations Branch.
In 1971, BMO moved Col Jensen to a branch in Toronto and he joined the Toronto Scottish Regiment as the Operations Officer. In 1973 he was posted to Central Militia Area Headquarters. In 1974 he joined the 48th as officer commanding Charlie Company with MWO (BGen Ret’d) as the CSM.
In 1982 he was promoted LCol to command the 48th. After his tour of command, he was posted to Toronto Militia District (TMD) headquarters and in 1987 he was promoted Colonel to command TMD.
In 1989 he became Deputy Chief of Staff at Land Force Central Area Headquarters and in 1996 he retired from the Forces.
After obtaining a BComm degree at McGill in 1965, he joined the Bank of Montreal (BMO) and three years later obtained his MBA from McGill in 1968. He rejoined BMO and in November 1969 he was posted to the Main Branch in Winnipeg.In 1973 he left BMO to join Traders Group Ltd and in 1980, he joined Scotiabank. Col Jensen was Vice President Small Business Risk Management when he retired in 2001.
He has served on not-for-profit boards and was President of the Toronto Philharmonia Orchestra for several years. After retirement, he was a consultant for a few years – mostly with small businesses and started a software development company creating database applications for small businesses.
