B72655 Sgt Gord Browning, a member of the 48th Highlanders (Reserves) prior to war being declared, enlisted for overseas duty and was posted to Able Company. He was part of the Advance Party of 12 Highlanders under command of Lt. Trumbull Warren which embarked on 9 December 1939, disembarking in the UK on 18 December. The 1st Battalion, 48th Highlanders followed, embarking on the Reina del Pacifico in Halifax on 18 December. (More research required. Browning not on sailing list to Sicily in 1943 so may have left the battalion, or been posted elsewhere when in England with the 1st Bn.)
