Front of kilt apron

World War 1 Kilt apron (Replica)

Khaki kilt apron, full wrap, worn by WWI Canadian soldiers of Highland regiments. This replica was made for reenactment of Highlanders in WWI. Ties on top edge to secure around waist and on one edge, halfway between belt and bottom edge, to keep the apron closed. Pocket with button on front centre. The back was pleated allowing freedom of movement.

The full apron was worn in the trenches to protect the kilt underneath. Highlanders wore the kilt in combat in 1915 and were entitled to wear the kilt during the entire war. Trousers and shorts were made available in late 1915 as an option to be decided by the soldier. Many 48th Highlanders wore the kilt throughout the war as a matter of pride in regiment.
