A 24 inch by 34 inch quad-fold newspaper of the Globe and Mail Ontario Edition 7th May 1945 with headline “WAR END MATTER OF HOURS”
The photograph shows the German Delegation signing the instrument of surrender of the entire German military forces world-wide at the close of the Second World War. The signing took place in the mess tent of Field Marshal Montgomery’s 21 Army Group Headquarters at Luneburg Heath May 4, 1945 at 1830 hours. The two barracks room tables were covered with army blankets for this occasion. The final surrender document was signed three days with General Eisenhower, Commander of the Allied Forces.

Both Friedeburg and Kinsel committed suicide within a week of the signing taking place, the first by poison and the second by a bullet.
