The “Dover Dash” – 24 May 1940

The Dover Dash 24 May 1940

Men of the 48th Highlanders preparing to load The SS Mona Queen, this operation was aborted that evening and the troops returned to Aldershot. (photo by Art Gaston) P1060

Arrived at Dover 6am and boarded ship. Spent the day loading munitions and supplies. Witnessed ships being unloaded with British casualties from France.

At 7:30 pm same day, we were ordered to disembark for our return to Aldershot.

Photograph – gives me reason to believe that one of the two men on lower left has an identical profile of Sgt Major Crossley.

The tall Officer standing at attention on dockside of gang plank holding a swagger stick, has all the characteristics of Major Daddy Armstrong.

I cannot identify the man wearing the Glengarry.     Art Gaston
