Heraldry: Motto: Dileas gu Brath Translation: (Gaelic) Faithful Forever Reverse: The Union Jack on which is surmounted the Crown and the 48th Highlanders Crest Obverse: Roman numerals “48” surrounded by laurels of Maple Leaves on one side and thistles on the other and surmounted by a Falcon’s head couped or on a wreath of or and gules (appears similar to an eagle’s head erase) and on ribbons are the Battle Honours for South Africa and First World War on a field of azure.
In the 48th Highlanders of Canada it is the custom that all Company Commanders and Senior Officers have a Pipe Banner that is carried by their Piper on parade. The second in command of the Pipes and Drums carries the Commanding Officer’s banner. The Pipe Major carries a special pipe banner “The Regimental Banner” which displays on each side the Monarch’s and Regimental Colours. On the obverse side of all all of these banners the Regimental Badge is displayed on a field of Royal Blue. On the reverse the personal arms of the Officer is displayed. When not on parade Pipe Banners are hung in the Officer’s Mess.
This banner was in service from 1928 to 1959.
