Private David Henry Maxwell, born March 16, 1894, was listed as a bookkeeper/clerk from Victoria B.C. and enlisted in Vancouver on November 9, 1914.  He was attached to the 30th Battalion, a reserve battalion sent overseas and used to replace men lost to front line units.

David was sent to the 15th Battalion after heavy losses at Ypres in April 1915.  He fought at Festubert in May 1915 and served with the unit at the front until early 1916 , when he began to have bouts of appendicitis. It was eventually removed in England and David served  orderly duties during 1917.  He was discharged in February 1919 and sailed home on the Olympic to Halifax.
